Professor Zulauf took up a Readership in Mathematics at the University of Waikato in 1969, and soon afterwards became the Chair of Mathematics. He was a Professor of Mathematics until his retirement in 1986 and was made an Emeritus Professor in the same year; he was the fourth Emeritus Professor of the University. In 2011, Professor Zulauf generously created the “A Zulauf Trust Scholarship” for a postgraduate student undertaking study and research in mathematics at the University of Waikato. The Scholarship funds are held and overseen by the Public Trust. In 2021, the Scholarship regulations underwent some minor updates and changes, agreed to by the Public Trust, including a change to the amount and number of scholarships available. Between 2024 and 2026, the pool of funding available each year will be $25,000; up to five scholarships will be awarded each year.
This Scholarship is open to domestic and international students who are currently enrolled full-time at the University of Waikato in postgraduate study with a research component in mathematics or statistics. Applicants must have achieved at least a B+ average for their most recent undergraduate degree, and be able to show dedication to mathematics and to furthering the study of mathematics.
